The España Chapter, NSDAR
Madrid, Spain
The España Chapter, NSDAR National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) was the first Units Overseas Chapter to be confirmed in the twenty-first century. After months of hard work on the part of Carol Rilling and Ann G. Peavey, National Vice Chairman-Genealogy, (Units Overseas Committee), we held our organizing meeting in Madrid, Spain, on February 3, 2001, with ten organizing members in attendance.
As part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, we share the three-fold purpose of the National Society: education, historic preservation, and patriotism. At the same time, our focus is on bringing attention to Spain’s important role in helping the American colonies to gain independence. Our research into the role of Spaniards and the Spanish Crown in the American Revolutionary War aims to make this little-known fact generally recognized.
